If you want to do a jump start without bothering with python and primstar, you still can use JASS. JASS is a ready made binary distribution which contains everything you need to start. It is blender and it has the needed add on scripts already installed with it. We still distribute the JASS-1.4 release (which you also can find on this blog at http://blog.machinimatrix.org/jass Right now it has become a bit outdated but it still serves its purpose. At least it helps you to jump start.

But if you want to wait for another couple of weeks, you will find JASS-2.0 here, which will contain blender-2.49, primstar, all necessary python modules and maybe some add on scripts and more enhancements. It will again be a binary “Install and play” jump start distributionl. Expect us to be ready end of february.

your videos are very nice - but i am lost sometimes. I have been trying to make sculpties for two months. They do not work for me.

Can you help me understand how to get Blender to use Python to export and import - this has never worked for me, and I can not find where to find Python or how to use it??

Please consider to create your personal scripts-folder OUTSIDE of the blender installation folders. Your benefit will be that you can upgrade blender without loosing your scripts... Or you can install several versions of blender all using the same personal scripts-folder.

I say in the video:

"First, we are going to create a scripts directory on our file system. I will place it right into my 3d-tools directory"

So... Just create a fresh directory somewhere on your file system...
I show, how i do that and you can follw me in the video, how i actually create the directory on windows-xp with native windows tools. nothing special here.

Does that help you ?
