Thanks for this video! After struggling through the Blender manuals and getting only more confused by them, this really cut to the chase for me! Very helpful and I love that I can hear and watch at the same time. Looking forward to following more of your Blender tuts. Thanks so much for giving of your time for this.

Where did i say that holding the middle mouse button down would PAN ? Middle mouse button alone lets my camera-view rotate around the object ... But sure you are right that pressing down SHIFT plus middle mouse button will do panning!

BTW: you can change that in the user preferences window...

If holding the Middle Mouse Button to pan all sides of your object does not work, try holding the Shift key down while holding the Middle Mouse Button down, and drag the mouse.

Thank you Gaia for your quick reply....unfortunately I had it set to rotate as default=/ I checked it again as you said but it is all set and it does not rotate. Maybe it has to do with an error my program shows when I open it.....I get a little black window in which is written:

Compiled with Python version 2.6.2
'import site' failed; use -v for traceback
Checking for installed Python....no installed Python found.
Only built-in modules are available. Some scripts may not run.
Continuing happily

grrrrrr......

I suspect you have changed the blender default settings somehow. Can you please check the user preferences menu:

- Open the user preferences (or drag the "I" window down to see its content)
- Under "View&Controls" check what function is assigned to the middle mouse button : You will see that it can be set to "Rotate View" or "Pan View". Ensure that it is set to "Rotate view" and go ahead with the tutorial.

If it still does not work as expected, please check that your mouse is not broken and correctly installed. I can ensure you that what the tutorial says is absolutely correct as long as you use blender's default settings. And i use this mode every day and hour i am sitting in front of blender. It works as explained.

The tutorial is great. I had no problem with the voice. I was a little sketchy in its emphasis at times, but perfectly understandable.

I would skip the whole, 'Blender is fully intuitive' intro. It is not intuitive in the least, in fact this is the only software I've ever needed the tutorial for! Also, you might want to add a 'How to save your creation' part at the end of the first tutorial. The Save menu is ......... well.............Blender-esque.

But I am very thankful for these tutorials. I hope to start using Blender, now that the code has been cracked.

Wonderful tutorials! I did not find them hard to understand at all and I really appreciate that you include the text to refer to as well. The first tutorial I used was on another site (hadn't found these yet) and I got an idea of what I could do with Blender. I wish I had seen this tutorial first - it gives a good basic overview and getting a look at the other tutorials offered here, I can see so many possibilites now! Thanks again for this.

@JerrySmith: Concerning the speach processor technology, we find highly differing opinions about the quality. Some people tell us, they can understand without any difficulties, other telll us, they don't understand a single word.

It may be a matter of getting used to the voice and the more your hear it, the better you understand it. So meanwhile, we possibly are highly biased to a certain extent.

So please can you give us a couple of examples, where the voice fails for you personally? The best would be, you tell us, what you think, you hear.
The full transcription is published above, so you could directly refer to it, if you like. So we can better find out, what exactly makes the problems.

And if you know about any other speach software, which gives better results, we would happily take a look at it. We are currently don't know anything better.

I personally would have favored to use a british accented voice. But the machinimatrix team favorised the now used voice.

While a nice idea in theory, the speech software you're using for this video is absolutely terrible. Many parts impossible to understand and it detracts from the lesson itself.
