Is there a way to render the baked texture for just one face of a mesh model?
so that I could actually put the texture on a normal SL prim?
I am trying to create a skybox with baked shadowing/textures but I can’t figure out how to get the baked textures into second life for meshes, sculpties I know how to but mesh, I unwrap then don’t know what to do from there, well other then bake but the texture it makes does not work in second life.
Is there or will there be a tutorial on how to bake a texture/material to a mesh model for second life, I’ve attempted many things, looked at many youtube video but have yet to find one that shows you how to actually get the texture to work correctly in second life, I can get as far as a unwrapped baked texture but past that I cannot get a texture to work with second life correctly.
Am I missing something?
Is there a version available for Blender 2.5?
Please, where could I download the JASS? I have it about half a year, but a new bugs appeared in it (sculpties began to upload deformed), so I wanted to reinstall it, but now I can not find the place where I could download it again. There is no download possibility anywhere on this site (or I didnt find it, at least) and those Second life shops are not existing anymore…:-( Then, when I could download JASS again, help, please!
Well, shop is OK, it is just landmark on this page what is damaged, nothings more. Sorry for my question…
Well, it appears that since I last used jass, you now have to get a license key from inside SL. I have long since left sl and self-exiled myself to openGrid. It is a shame that your scripts are only available to folks who use sl.
If I am wrong, and missed something, please correct me.
I am on linux and went to DL the mac port so I could get the scripts from it to install, and I was told to go to an in world vendor.
It is a shame.
I’m in exactly the same boat as Feck McConnell, in that I have not logged in to SL in over a year, and have ZERO intention of doing so due to the excess of drama, datamining, and general abuse of the platform in countless ways. This does NOT mean that I no longer use ANY virtual world technology however. The PrimStar scripts have been useful to me in the past, and I had finally decided to go looking for JASS to help fund development of PrimStar 2, only to discover that I am expected to log into an untrusted platform (SL) and go to an untrusted shop (More datamining? How can I know?) to get a download link for JASS? No thank you. I guess my only option at this point is to update PrimStar 1.x code for Blender 2.5 and Python 3 myself. Thanks for all you’ve done, and for the great tutorials, and thank you to Domino for the same. It’s a shame you don’t want any customers who’ve left LindenLand, but I guess that’s how it is… C’est la vie!
First of all apologize for only having set up an SL shop! We are very aware of this issue and we have been constantly discussing solutions for this. The main problem we have is that micropayment is not well supported by services like paypal and linden$ payment from a user website is not at all supported by Linden Labs. So we have to provide a solution for that.
- We discussed to set up another online store in another virtual world. But which one would we choose without running into similar problems ?
- We discussed to add paypal to our shop despite the costs of it. But then we have to adjust the whole shop organisation which needs at least some time to prepare.
Currently we favorize introduction of Paypal despite its extremly high transaction costs. But even there we got problems due to federal law issues as for instance we can not setup pay by credit card with paypal for our products.
Anyways we will soon find a solution for this problem and then you can get hold on at least primstar-2 without need to enter SL beforehand. Until this service is setup i can offer you to proceed as follows:
1.) Donate (donate button at top right of this page)
7.5 US$ for Jass-Pro
15.0 US$ for Jass-Magic
22.5 US$ for Primstar-2-dev
2.) Email me at gaia.clary@machinimatrix.org
subject: “request link for Jass-Primstar-2-dev” (or -Magic, -Pro )
3.) A soon as i can i will setup the download link for you. Right now that needs
manual action so it may take a bit of time.
Apologize again for any inconveniences. We promise to improve!
I was just wondering if there was a way to render shine in Jass for second life some how, I find myself in the need to be able to.
If not, would shine be a future feature of Jass maybe?
See the sculpted prims IV tutoial for how to create shiny reflections:
http://blog.machinimatrix.org/2010/07/07/sculpted-prims-part-iv/
I believe that true shine will not be available until Secodlife will support specularity maps. Until then you either use the method i describe in the tutorial of use the built in shine in Secondlife.
you can only bake fake shininess. it will never look rioght in second life. But it might look good depending on what you exactly wnat to do. You can bake specularity ino your textures. You find a way how to do that here: http://blog.machinimatrix.org/2010/07/07/sculpted-prims-part-iv/
hi i have jass 2 pub am trying to create 2 in one sculpty but my screens are not the same as tutorial i somehow got the cylinder to separate but i have no grid and cant see visible line between do i need jass pro to show the same screens as tutorial or can it be done with jass pub.
for the first question: The tutorial has been created before primstar was finaly delivered. At that time we favorized the user interface which i used in this tutorial. But the final primstar release used a completely different (and much more elaborate) user interface and i never managed to update the tutorial. However you can find all functions shown in the tutorial also in the jass distribution (pub or pro do not differ in that area).
For the secnd question: I do not quite understand, what you are missing. Do you miss the 2 extra windows which show the object in topv view and side view ? Or don’t you see a grid on the 3D view ? Maybe a screen shot would help.
hi ty for your support
yes to both i do not see the two screens top and side view
and i dont see a grid on the 3d view
The Jass Library of Sculpts download link leads to “Page Not Found”
We need a linux distro of this tool set….Please!!!!!
That does not make too much sense to me. If you are working with linux, then i assume that you also have basic knowledge about how to install the necessary python script folders on your machine. We have already added a separate archive to Jass-2.3-PRO which only contains the modified primstar and our jass scripts. So all you need to do is:
install blender
install python
locate the blender home directory
navigate down to .blender/scripts
copy the “jass” and “primstar” folders just to that scripts directory
Note that you must place the folders into the scripts directory, not only their content!!!
We plan to also add the archive with the unmodified primstar and the jass folders to the free distribution. I cant tell at the moment when that will happen though.
Hi Gaia,
Many thanks for gathering such great resources together, but I’m having difficulties with Mac 10.4 installation. I’m running a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 10.5.8 OS. I’ve previously downloaded Blender 2.49b and have already set that up for other, specific, projects. I’ve downloaded your 10.4 bundle, installed it from the .tgz into my Applications and opened Blender but I can’t see Primstar in the scripts menu. I’ve used Houdini to try and find any hidden files or folders for Python, Primstar and the Jass Library on my system and none of them show as being installed. Is there something that I’m missing or do I need to try an install of the separate software?
Thanks for the help.
The Jass-installation for Mac is in fact a redistribution of the original blender package plus the primstar scipts and the jass scripts already placed at the correct locations. So when you have already another version of blender running on your system, you might now see 2 blender-icons in your Application folder. So maybe you only have opened the “wrong” version (your “already existing blender”) instead of the new version ?
I have no other idea what might have gone wrong. We have tested it on our apple notebook and there it works as expected. Still problems ? then IM me in SL. We will sort that out.
Gaia
Incompatible with 64-bit Windows. I had the same issues here as I did running the steps separately, so this isn’t your fault, I was just hoping you’d found a solution that I hadn’t tried.
I have tweeted the probable solution a while ago on twitter: Hint For 64 bit users only: If blender/JASS crashes with error 0xc0150002 then install VC++ 2008 from http://bit.ly/bQz3WY
Sadly, as I am running Ubuntu 10.04, I cannot install this
I was using it on Windows 7 and it was a great program.
I’d love to use it again; is there any way I can get it on Ubuntu?
install blender-2.49b on your ubuntu system. Then go back to your windows-7 edition and locate the blender system script folder inside the Jass-2 installation. There you find two directories named “jass” and “primstar”. Take these folders and copy them to the equivalent location within blender on your ubuntu system. That should be all you need.
I no longer use Windows 7.
Can I get the same files elsewhere?
you could download the MAC-OSX version, untar the sources, search for the folder “jass” and “primstar” in the unpacked directory tree. move these folders over to your blender and you are done.
Great, thanks
thanks again
I’ve installed Blender, Python & Primstar manually until now, but thought I’d give your own JASS product a try due to all the good things I hear about it. I’m sad to report that I’m unable to use it because you set the global PYTHONPATH system variable to %JASSROOT%\python-2.6.4. Unfortunately this means every Python script on my system tries to use libraries in the JASS/Python directory – even if those scripts are executed using the pythonw.exe belonging to an older or newer version of Python installed on my system. This nearly always results in syntax errors.
Many organisations, including Google, seem reluctant to roll forward from Python 2.5.x right now, which makes it difficult to develop for Google App Engine when JASS is installed, for example. I have also been studying Python 3.x at Uni, so maybe the way you’ve configured Python will cause problems for others too? I don’t know. I hope this feedback is helpful to you anyway. All the best, Gaia, and major props to you for your brilliant work here.
No sooner did I comment than I came up with a workaround. I deleted the PYTHONPATH environment variable, and created a bat file to launch JASS.
set PYTHONPATH=%JASSROOT%\python-2.6.4;%JASSROOT%\python-2.6.4\DLLs;%JASSROOT%\python-2.6.4\lib;%JASSROOT%\python-2.6.4\lib\lib-tk;
"%JASSROOT%\blender.exe"
Other Python scripts on my system are now working again, and JASS seems to work OK when launched with the bat file.
The newest version of JASS-2.3.1 no longer needs this workaround. We now use the environment variable PYTHONHOME which is only used by blender-2.4 as far as i have been told. You might want to verify that this is correct though.
Are there Blender tutorials specifically for Mac users? I’m having trouble following along with the Windows OS directions…
thanks
We currently have no MAC specific tutorial besides the installation video. But can you provide a little detail about what trouble you have ? So maybe we can take care of this in future tutorials…
Thank you so much for Jass-2. I just discovered it today and getting primstar into my Blender scripts had proven impossible for me. Do you think you will create a Jass for Blender 2.5?
Thx
Domino has stated that he won’t do anything before the 2.5 API is established and this can take yet another half of a year. We probably will not take the first step either as we think, Domino is the better person to do it.
But as soon as a primstar or equivalent for blender 2.5 is available, we will probably jump in and make a jass-3 for it.
Hello, I upgraded to the new Jass 2.0.. and I’m having an issue with importing sculpt maps. When I import a sculpt map it comes in with a gap going through the sculpt. Not the two gaps that are in all sculpts made in the program.. but a open gap going from each of the two original openings.
When I was using the older Jass/Blender I didn’t have this issue. Can you help please.. tell me what I may have done wrong.. or how I can fix this issue. Thank you.
Hi.
This behaviour is known since long time and i believe that Domino has stopped putting effort into the original import tool in favor of a more convenient method:
- go to the UV-image editor.
- open the sculptmap as an image.
- then when the sculptmap is loaded into the UV-editor: Image -> Import as sculptie
This has never failed for me. And in any case where i have seen the gap you reported when importing with the File -> import -> SL Scvulptie, this gap was gone after using the alternative import method.
YES! That worked, thanks Gaia.. you’re the bestest. And many thanks to you and your great tutorials I have gotten quite good at sculpting for a beginner.
Thank you very much for taking the time and effort to put together the Mac Primstar distribution. I installed it and went through the Sculpted Prims tutorials part 1,2,3. Everything worked very well on my 2.8GHz Intel Core i7 mac running 10.6.3.
I had been trying to import sculpts with blender since second life first implemented the feature. You and your team finally made it possible. The tutorials are fantastic for learning blender and sculptie workflow to second life.
If there is any better way to help you desigen the sculpt i have not seen it this is 1 great prog
Could someone please explain how to install in my Intel Mac Blender? I tried putting the Jass folder in the “show package contents” folder of the program as well as the files loose. Neither showed me any import/export options for sculpties….please help!
1.) Create a new directory anywhere in your file system
2.) Drop the entire jass-folder into this directory. So you end up with one subfolder named “jass” in your new directory
3.) install blender 2.49
4.) optionally install python-2.5.2
5.) open blender
The following description is taken from our installation tutorial at http://blog.machinimatrix.org/2008/07/12/the-blender-installation-guide :
* In the upper left corner, you see the information icon. This is a hidden window. You can access it, by placing the cursor on the window border, then left mouse click and drag the window down. The user preferences appear.
* Go to the right side and click the button: “File Path”. A set of input fields appear.
* Locate the field labeled with: “python scripts”, and click on the associated folder icon. a file selector box appears.
* Now navigate to your scripts folder.
* Then select the folder by clicking on: “select script path”. Now blender immediately finds and recognizes all scripts, which we have placed into our personal folder. Let us navigate to some places, where you can now see, how nice the scripts integrate into the blender interface.
* ok, now move the user preferences window back out of sight.
* One final task is still to be done. If you exit blender now, it will silently forget about your custom data. So we have to tell blender, to keep the information for us.
* go to, file, save default settings. Now blender will remember your personal folder whenever you start it again.
I hope, that helps
have fun.
Gaia
Hi, machinimatrix team, I have noticed after using the JASS 1.4 bin for a while that it tends to freeze if I’m running the SL viewer and the JASS 1.4 bin, on a 32bits win xp pro sp3 and viewer Second Life 1.23.4 (123908). It happens after let’s say 40mins on working with the JASS 1.4 bin while having SL running. So, I said, ok will save the .bend, quit and re-start jass 1.4 bin, it behaves the same, keeps freezing, so I quit SL viewer and quit jass, re-start jass 1.4 and it works just fine again for a while if I’m running SL viewer then it freezes again. So I tested Blender (pure) and SL viewer it works fine, apparently not affected. The OS I’m running is absolutely clean, no viruses, no spywares no unneeded process running with 4gbs ddr3 ram (using 3,2 because of the architecture) and a tricore processor running a nvidia 512 ddr3 video card.
By the way, I’m glad about the motivation in the helping Domino initiative. He’s probably having a hard time carrying the carpal tunnel syndrome and needs some help.
Great Tutorials. I have been using blender with the the previous scripts from last summer. Got a new MAC laptop, and loaded blender 2.46 and the Jass scripts today, but will not back sculptie texture. The rest of the scripts seem to work (library and creation). Please advise. Thx Nikko
Hi, Nikko
I detected a dependency to python-2.6 in the code.
So you can only use a blender-version which has been compiled for python-2.6
(Note:just installing python 2.6 does NOT work)
I have published the 1.41 version of the scripts now, which should work
on python-2.5 AND python 2.6. So please update to jass-1.41. the download
is available from the blog page.
apologize for inconveniences.
Gaia
Hello! When I creat the map I see the Rainbowcolor. I bake the map in object mode and switch to edit mode. I dont see an transparens.
Hello Gala,
I am on Mac. I try it again with .tga and .png. I don’t see it in blender and also when i save them and look in my image editor.
The video is out. Maybe it can help you to solve your problem …
look at http://blog.machinimatrix.org/2009/06/03/images-with-alpha-channel/
good luck!
Gaia
@Yohane: I have double checked the process and it works for me. I am currently preparing a video tutorial
for it. It should be ready tonight. Meanwhile tell me, if you can at least see the alpha-transparency in blender ?
So maybe you only have an issue with the export of images with alpha channel ?
Have you also tried to use png format instead of tga ? I had some problems with tga format recently, but i think it is more with my image editor than with blender…
Ah… i use the binary release of jass-1.3, but it should also work with the scripts release on top of your blender installation… There is no dependency to python here, so it should work for you too. On which operating system are you working ?
Yes this are the steps I do and I dont get it.
Yohane;
Please take a look at the bottom of the page http://blog.machinimatrix.org/jass/
There you find a hoto create images withg Alpha
If that does not work, contact me, i will give you further assistance.
Hello,
I try out JASS 1.3 with Python 2.6.2 on a Mac. Hm.. How do I bake a Sculptie with an Map Protection Alpha Channel in it? Maybe it doesnt work on my side.. I dont see an result.
What steps have I to do?
Downloaded, unzipped and ready to use, thanks for the up-grade -)
I just tested the beta running on py26, works so far so good.
thanks for the quick reply, Hussayn, sounds like a good plan.
Hi, “1 Question”;
Thank you very much for your valuable input. concerning your remarks:
1.) python 2.6 support
I have built blender with its default settings. They still are set to python 2.5. But i have figured out how to build against python 2.6, so we have now proceeded to our beta-version built against python 2.6 (i have updated the download links).
2.) camera and light in the default customization
According to Gaia camera and light will become important shortly when she is going to create her tutorial about light settings in blender. But we agreed to push the light settings to layer 2. So for the beginner the light objects do not get into view. And the experienced user will just shift click on layer 2 to get them into view.
The idea of this .exe is quite interesting and useful, and that will keep my Full Blender package appart from SL sculpting and its default settings which makes the workflow easier for me, but I still see the light and camera in the default settings of Jass-1.2 binary version which I think is obsolete refering to sculpting for SL.
I’m on Blender 2.49-RC3 py26 the The JASS-1.2 BINARY works with py25, I removed py25 while ago because I moved to 2.6, any special features might not work if I run The JASS-1.2 BINARY on py26? Why py25 and not py26?
Jass-1.2 sweet
Victory! Your site has helped me solve a real problem and I have found the information I have been searching for. It has taken weeks to find it, and it’s all here. I’ll be back!
Sweet =)
hi.
The scripts are independent from the python version you use. I have tested both. I am curently running on blender-2.49-RC3 with python 2.6
py25 or py26, important? I’m on Blender RC3 py26
