IntroAfter you have installed the Primstar-2 module you are ready to go with your first sculpted prim. I will step quickly through an easy task and reuse my famous top hat from a previous tutorial to show you the basics. Primstar-2 is still under development, so it may be possible that it changes its appearance and functionality over time. I try my best to keep the documentation up to date but i am not perfect. If you find something inconvenient, please feel free to report it to me. The Video (Part I)Below you find the First video of my Sculpted Prims beginners video series. You may want to watch the video first and then get back to this document and let you guide by the text. |
About Keyboard ShortcutsWherever i want to describe a key combination like for example : first press ‘s’, then press shift, then press z” then i will use a shortcut: “s+shift+z” and of course the “+” signs are not meant to be typed. It is important to follow the order of appearance of the characters from left to right! When i type a right arrow “->” followed by a literal name, that always means “left mouse click on a button with the given name on its label”. Contact:

You have 2 options :
|
You do not have to worry about these settings and you can safelyy just hit the OK button to get your bake done. Note for Primstar-1 users:The Color range setup has changed significant compared to Primstar-1 where you could set the color range center to where ever you wanted. |
- Now you can see your sculptie in the UV image editor
- And now you should see the rainbow colored sculptmap in the UV editor:

Please see the Reference guide for more detailed information about how to use Primstar-2 |

ok I’m completely confused and admit I’m a total newbie to Blender. I’m using Blender 2.60a and have installed your latest version of Primstar 2. I start Blender in its default manner and create a sculpy, for example a cylinder. I set up both a 3D and a UV/Image Editor window. I want to be able to create both a sculpty map and a texture map. I can create the sculpty map just fine using Render->Bake scuplty Map from the top menu. However, if I go to the UV/Image Editor window and move way over to the right. I don’t see the box that allows you to select either sculpty or UVTex. If I start from your start.blend, I can see the scuplty option but can’t see the UVTex option. How can I set up the option to created a texture map?
i have created a new entry in the FAQ:
How do i prepare my sculptie for texturing ?
That should answer your question.
Thanks Gaia
I had an easy installation as I followed your guide and created the top hat no problem.
I am loving the new interface. Can’t wait to see more of your awesome tutorials.
Cheers,
Sabra
why does the sculpt map not have colours throughout it? mine looks like a wireframe meshmade of rainbow
nothing to worry about. The image still contains the full sculptmap. But currently the sculptmap-image is created with the default alpha mask, which is a side view of the current object. next release will contain some possibilities to configure the alpha settings (and turn them off if not wanted).
I also got confused with the Cylinder / UVTex as Joey because I was in Object mode and so I wasn’t able to see the needed info on the right
But after reading here I discovered I was in the wrong state.
Also, to be able to install the addons on windows 7, after various attempts, I discovered I must to be Administrator otherwise I got permission errors. Don’t know it this happened to other people, but anyway I feel much more XP’ish this way
This is a nasty issue with blender not reporting back that it can not install because of wrong file permissions. I also had this problem but missed to mention it in the quick install guide. (Will do now)
the ‘sculptie’ did not show up for me in this process. However, if I picked the name ‘cylinder’ I got the rainbow. THere was only that one texture listed in the pop up.
Joey
Note that there are 2 image selection boxes in the menu bar!
I refer to the secnd box to the far right which contains the UVTextures,
while you refer to the first which contains the Image textures.
“cyinder” is an Image texture.
that wasnt a complaint or criticism ,it just may have confused people new to blender.
looking great Gaia ,and all working well so far.A small error at the top next to number 3 …
“3 Press Numpad 1 to get into side view (or View -> Front)”
numpad 1 is front view obviously..
